PCMC during the Proficiency Stage

Last January 22, 2020, the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA) facilitated a Strategy Review which helped PCMC calibrate its position, as the National Reference Center for advanced pediatric specialty care. The shift is based on the Republic Act 11223, also known as the Universal Health Care (UHC), which sets the direction for the reform of the health care sector in the Philippines.

The Philippine Children’s Medical Center, being a Referral or “Apex” hospital is geared to provide tertiary and quaternary specialty care services for children and high risk pregnant women, in line with UHC. Quaternary care is an extension of tertiary care in reference to advanced levels of medicine which are highly specialized and not widely accessed. The scope of a Quaternary Care Facility will include highly specialized medical, surgical or diagnostic procedures, including Clinical Research done for safety and efficacy of new drugs, devices, diagnostic products and treatment regimens intended for human use.

Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, PCMC strives to continue its journey as the workforce flexibly adjusts to all the challenges that lie ahead.

Last November 24, 2021 the entire PCMC is in the state of jubilation as it triumphantly passed the Proficiency Stage of the Performance Governance System (PGS) and received a Silver Trailblazer award via Zoom Conference.

C.H.I.L.D

During the Virtual Proficiency Revalida, Dr. Sonia B. Gonzalez, the current OIC, Executive Director, presented PCMC’s accomplishments, highlighting several breakthrough results that focus on the C.H.I.L.D. The said breakthroughs were part of PCMC’s strategy in positioning itself as the National Reference Center for Advanced Pediatric Specialty Care by 2025.

The overall Revalida performance of PCMC was commended by the following Revalida panellists: Dr.Maria Linda G. Buhat, Panel Chair and Philippine Heart Center, Nursing Service Assistant Director; Dr. Timothy Ting, Adjunct Professorof Team Energy Center for Bridging Leadership in Asian Institute of Management; Dr. Gloanne C. Adolor, Assistant Professor at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business; and Dr. Fitzgerald Arancel, Training Officer at the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

The end of PCMC’s Proficiency journey only signifies the beginning of a new one, the journey of Institutionalization. Empowered by the momentum brought by the Proficiency Stage, PCMC is ready to embark on another adventure, and as Dr. Gonzalez commented;
The Proficiency Stage Revalida is our validation that no amount of pandemic can stop a determined organization especially if the one at stake are the vulnerable population of our society – the children
