The medical and surgical care provided by the fellow is directly supervised by the attending consultant to promote an environment conducive to continuous learning and personal growth. The fellow conducts daily out-patient clinics and performs surgical procedures which include cataract surgery, strabismus surgery, laser treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity and Retinoblastoma, intravitreal injection of therapeutic drugs, enucleation, orbital biopsy, anterior orbitotomy, ptosis surgery, among others.
Pediatric Ophtalmology and Strabismus Fellowship Program
The Section of Ophthalmology began a 2-year fully funded Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus fellowship program in 2020 which is recognized by the Philippine Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (PSPOS) and the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO). The training program aims to produce a highly skilled practitioner-leader in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus capable of working in a broad range of clinical, academic and research setting.

The fellow supervises resident rotators from different ophthalmology programs in Metro Manila and works closely with the rotating fellow from the East Avenue Medical Center. Journal clubs specific to the pediatric ophthalmology & strabismus program are held bimonthly including Retinoblastoma rounds in collaboration with the Hema-Oncology service.

The Philippine Children’s Medical Center is one of the government-owned and controlled corporate National Centers for Specialized Health Care under the Department of Health.
