Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program
The Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases of the Philippine Children’s Medical Center was established in 1989 through the efforts of Dr. Rosalinda B. Soriano, together with Dr. Estrella Paje-Villar, Dr. Rosalinda D. De Monteverde, Dr. Salvacion R. Gatchalian, Dr. May B. Montellano and Dr. Jaime A. Santos.
Dr. Rosalinda Soriano is the founding President of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines (PIDSP), a subspecialty organization of the Philippine Pediatric Society since 1993.
The two-year fellowship is the first pediatric infectious disease fellowship training program recognized in the Philippines.

Duly recognized for its rigorous program , trainees have first-hand experience through actual patient encounters, preceptorial, bedside rounds, case management presentations, lectures, conferences, research, community involvement and is in close coordination in managing patients with other subspecialties . Cognizant of the need to make our trainees gain local and global experience , they are also provided with opportunities for outside rotation in the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine and post fellowship observership foreign training programs.
It is with a sense of accomplishment that our graduates since 1991 have gone on to carve their own careers in the field of infectious disease, serving as clinicians, medical officers in government institutions, researchers, members of the academe, volunteer experts in various fields of public health interest and foremost advocates. Highly regarded for their expertise, they are voices of influence in their medical community and place of practice.
The Section is headed by Dr. Maria Anna P. Bañez , a graduate of the PCMC Training Program and the immediate Training Officer for the past 21 years. She is ably supported by her former mentors, Dr. Jaime Santos and Dr. Estrella Paje-Villar who have remained to be active pillars in the Section. To complete the faculty, a number of graduates have returned to the fold to pay it forward and encourage more young minds that you can have the best of both worlds in private and public practice.

Philippine Children’s Medical Center
The Philippine Children’s Medical Center is one of the government-owned and controlled corporate National Centers for Specialized Health Care under the Department of Health. It is a 200-bed capacity tertiary hospital with a mandate to provide pediatric care, offer training programs for medical and allied health care providers, and be a center in clinical research.
