PCMC Achieved Final PGS Stage With a Gold Trailblazer Award

The Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) made another history as it passed the last stage of the Performance Governance System (PGS) and bagged the Gold Trailblazer Award, receiving the highest PGS recognition from the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA) last November 17, 2023.

The “institutionalized” status was finally conferred to PCMC after several years of diligence and hard work. The institution’s PGS transformation journey started way back in 2017 led by then Executive Director, Dr. Julius A. Lecciones. In the same year PCMC passed the Initiation Stage and later on bagged its first Gold Trailblazer award during the Compliance Stage in 2018. Dr. Sonia B. Gonzalez upon receiving the baton of leadership as current Executive Director, continued on with PCMC’s PGS Proficiency Stage, of which the institution was awarded the Silver Trailblazer award for its exemplary performance.

The various PCMC breakthroughs in its PGS transformation journey aligned with the Universal Health Care were focused on the:
Childhood Leukemia/ Cardiovascular Laboratory/ Clinic for Adolescent Transition Care and Cardiac Surgery;
Health Financing for Advanced Care/ tele-Health;
Improved Health Outcomes/ Infrastructure Development; L-iver Transplant Consortium/ Lung Disease;
Liver Transplant Consortium/ Lung Disease;
Dialysis Services/ Digitalization initiatives/ Dengue Center of Excellence;
Research generation;
Expansion of services for advanced Perinatal and Neonatal Care/ Eye interventions for children; and
Neurologic disorders and children with disabilities.
During the Institutionalization Public Governance Forum Revalida, Dr. Gonzalez showcased PCMC’s breakthroughs in the PGS pathway, providing a closer view on how the different units of the hospital worked together to achieve the institution’s target of positioning itself as the National Reference Center for Advanced Pediatric Specialty Care by 2025.

The overall Revalida performance of PCMC was commended by the following distinguished Revalida panelists: Mr. Rex C. Drilon II (ISA Trustee & Fellow); Dr. Christia S. Padolina (City Administrator, City Government of Navotas); Mr. Francis Ian L. Agatep (Consultant, City Government of Quezon City); and Dr. Pretchell P. Tolentino (Assistant Regional Director, Metro Manila Center for Health Development, Department of Health).

In the next 5 years and beyond, through the leadership of the Top Management, PCMC is more than ready to pursue higher P.E.A.K.S:
PERFORM continuously to sustain excellence in all committed breakthroughs in service, training and research
ESTABLISH more robust linkages in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao regional neonatal and perinatal centers, for high-risk pregnant mothers and their newborns
ACHIEVE digitalization of majority of hospital operations through advanced IT systems
KEEP track of completion of state-of-the-art infrastructure projects at par with international standards
